Student Support

Each year, hundreds of newly enrolled undergraduate and graduate students begin a journey that will take them into careers as K-12 teachers, college and university faculty, educational administrators, policy makers, and researchers. Some will choose careers in business, science or the arts, and use their training in education as a resource for making a difference in those sectors.

The students admitted to our highly selective programs are among the brightest and best in the nation. In choosing the University of Michigan, they make a major commitment of time—and a large financial sacrifice. The personal and financial costs are particularly acute for students in our MAC (Master of Arts with Certification) teacher education programs, most of whom abandon well-paid careers in order to become teachers.

The total cost for a Michigan undergraduate is nearly $20,000 per year and out-of-state students pay approximately $30,000 per year. For graduate students, the cost is even higher. Additional scholarships and fellowships will enable us to compete successfully for outstanding students at all levels by offering financial aid packages commensurate with those of elite private and public universities.

Named endowed scholarships can be established with a gift of $25,000 and endowed graduate student fellowships with a gift of $250,000.
