Audio Recording
While a portable audiocassette recorder is most commonly used, IRIS also has minidisc and specialty recorders when higher quality, multi-channel, or telephone recording is required. In addition, IRIS has a selection of microphones for various situations. Users are expected to provide their own standard-size, audiocassettes. IRIS has a limited supply of minidisc media available for checkout for up to two weeks. We also have some standard audiocassettes available for cash or check purchase.Audio Playback
In addition to using the portable audiocassette recorders for playback, IRIS has machines with foot controls specifically designed for transcribing audio cassettes. Unfortunately, we can not support record-playback. Copying audiocassettes can also be done at the IRIS Resource Center. For a fee, IRIS can duplicate audiocassettes. All duplication must comply with applicable copyright laws and the University of Michigan SPG.Audio/Video Conferencing Systems
See our Audio/Video Conferencing Systems PageVideo Camera Equipment
IRIS' format-of-choice for field acquisition is miniDV. IRIS has a variety of makes and models of miniDV video cameras. We are beginning to phase out, but will continue to support for some time, H-8 format. Currently IRIS does not have any camcorders for the VHS format.Video Playback
IRIS has VHS video playback carts for use in classrooms or conference rooms that do not have built-in systems. IRIS can also set up one of these carts with miniDV, Hi-8, U-Matic or videodisc players when necessary. In addition, the IRIS Resource Center has stations for private or small group viewing. Copying onto VHS can also be done at the IRIS Resource Center. For a fee, IRIS can duplicate videocassettes. All duplication must comply with applicable copyright laws and the University of Michigan Standard Practice Guide (SPG).Projection
In addition to maintaining overhead transparency projectors in the SEB instructional spaces, IRIS has portable screens, data/video projectors, slide projectors, and the good old-fashioned standby, the film projector.P.A./Sound Reinforcement
IRIS supports sound reinforcement for SoE activities. We have a variety of microphones for P.A. as well as recording. Please consult with Michael Dunn or Ron Miller to determine how IRIS can best meet your audio needs for a specific event.Multimedia Creation
IRIS provides workstations for the creation of multimedia in the IRIS Resource Center. These include scanning & graphics, video editing (iMovie, iDVD), CD-R & DVD-R creation, and media compression stations. These workstations are, as all of IRIS' equipment, for School of Education patrons to work on School of Education projects. All duplication of media must comply with applicable copyright laws and the University of Michigan SPG.Multimedia Presentation
To facilitate using multimedia in the classroom, IRIS has data projectors and a computer-on-wheels for presenting in the classroom. These may also be connected to the Ethernet network for access to the web or other U/M networked resources. Please note that many of these items are in great demand, desktop projectors and transcribers particularly. In order to meet the needs of all patrons reserving these, items must be returned on time.Classroom Audiovisual Delivery
Some large items IRIS must deliver to ED classes. The patron or designee may pick up small items from the circulation desk in the IRIS Resource Center.
