Multimedia, Audio, and Visual Resources: Policies and Procedures
Reservation / Checkout Procedures
All equipment is provided on a "First Reserved, First Served" basis for specific pieces of equipment. This means if you need to use popular equipment, you should place a reservation well in advance. (Six months advance reservation for some equipment is not unreasonable.)
In order to allow for the broadest possible circulation, we normally circulate equipment for a maximum of three business days. Items may be renewed, in person or by telephone, within a day of it's scheduled return. If that item has not been reserved, then an extension of up to three days may be granted. Special circumstances that require a checkout period longer than three days may be discussed with one of the Media Distribution Coordinators.
If the specific piece of equipment that you reserved is unavailable (e.g. not returned, or broken) IRIS staff will attempt to provide you with an available alternative. However, there may be rare times when no other equipment is available (e.g. unique equipment, other reservations, fires in the storeroom). If this should happen to you, we apologize for any inconvenience resulting from such an occurrence.

To Reserve
To Reserve Audiovisual Equipment, come to the IRIS Resource Center, SEB room
2007, or call (734) 764-5427 during IRIS Resource Center operating hours.
Be ready to provide the following information:
- Uniquename,
- Full Name,
- An effective telephone contact number,
- Class or Research Project for which the equipment will be used.
- Date & Time needed and finished
- Specific location where equipment will be used (i.e. 2212 SEB, Abbot Elementary School, and Gaylord School System Middle Schools.)

Check Out
When checking out equipment, please be prepared to show identification and sign
the equipment loan agreement, which reads as follows:
I have received all the listed items and I accept responsibility for loss, damage, or late return. I understand that I am responsible for the security and safety of all equipment until it is returned to IRIS staff, and will comply with all federal, state and local statutes while using this equipment. Failure to return equipment by the designated date and time may result in fines and hold credits.
It may take some time for IRIS staff to collect all requested items, check batteries, and finalize required paperwork. When picking-up items, please allow yourself lead-time for this activity.
Returning Equipment
Much of IRIS' equipment is in great demand (e.g., Video Cameras, Data Projectors, and Transcribers). Failure to return these items at the appointed time will likely result in a denial of service to the next person waiting to use the item. Please be considerate of other patrons and return items on time. Patrons who repeatedly violate this policy may be denied borrowing privileges.
Handling/Treatment of Equipment
The equipment, that IRIS loans to patrons, ranges in value from a few dollars
to several thousand. Although the equipment is insured, our deductible arrangement
is such that if a particular item is broken or stolen, it typically is permanently
lost to the School of Education. Please take special care with our equipment
and treat it as if it were your own, because in a very real sense it does belong
to you, as a member of this community. Patrons responsible for equipment loss
or abuse may be denied borrowing privileges and/or accrue fines and hold credits.
If there are any problems or questions about an item, please contact IRIS
as soon as possible. IRIS staff may be able to provide operational assistance
for certain items or events. IRIS provides by-appointment-training for using
our equipment. Email edu.net@umich.edu
to
request an appointment.
Eligibility
IRIS is a School of Education funded service. As such, IRIS' equipment is for the School of Education community to use in School of Education activities.

Some of IRIS' equipment s been assigned to a specific room in the SEB or can
only be used in specific spaces in the SEB. Examples of this type of equipment
are: the built-in equipment in rooms. See the classroom

SEB Classroom / Conference Room Use
Some equipment is for classroom or group use only. While some of the items
in this category are obvious, such as an Overhead Projector or a portable

Playback Cart.
IN SCHOOL OF EDUCATION or Out of SEB / off campus Use
While equipment in this class may be used on or off campus, we do require that

is still only to be used for SOE assignments and activities. Users must pick-up.
Equipment list
IRIS has a variety of audiovisual equipment available. The list and equipment is intended to be an example of what we have available. As always, make, model, and your mileage may vary. Go to the Equipment Page to see what may be available.
