Applying to the Teach For America Certification Program

The Teach For America Interim Certification Program at the University of Michigan School of Education is a state-approved alternative route to certification and is open only to teachers accepted by Teach For America (TFA), placed in TFA’s Detroit region, and who pass the appropriate Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) tests.

Entry to this program begins with an application to Teach For America. During the application and interview process with TFA, applicants will be able to indicate their preference for working in the Detroit region.

Members of the TFA-Detroit corps are also eligible to elect some certification courses for credit as non-candidates for degree or may apply to the Master of Arts in Educational Studies program with a concentration in urban pedagogy — a program available exclusively to the Detroit TFA corps.

Because the initial application to this program is through the Teach For America program, the deadlines are different than those of the University of Michigan. The TFA application deadlines can be found on their website. Subsequent applications for non-candidate for degree and the master of arts program are due by September 30.
