Degree: Master of Arts in Educational Studies with Secondary Teaching Certification

The University of Michigan is pleased to partner with the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation on the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Woodrow Wilson Michigan Teaching Fellowship.

The program prepares exemplary secondary teachers in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics to serve diverse learners in urban settings.

The WKKF-WW Michigan Teaching Fellowship curriculum at U-M is research-based, drawing upon the expertise of nationally-renowned faculty in the academic disciplines and in the field of education. The program will be of interest to individuals who have majored in or have strong professional experience in math or science, and have the desire to understand how to engage students in exploring these subjects using best practices in pedagogy and learning. Fellows will develop disciplinary knowledge and skills needed to attend to and build upon diverse pupils’ ideas, interpretations, and solutions required for the complex environment of twenty-first century schools.

If you become a Fellow, you will participate in the Secondary Master of Arts with Certification program at the University of Michigan. The “MAC” program is a rigorous graduate-level, teacher education program that is complemented by a year long clinical experience. As a Secondary MAC Teaching Intern, the clinical experiences will allow you to work with students in grades six through 12, in either Ypsilanti or Detroit public school classrooms. In one full year, spring to summer, you complete course work for a master’s degree in education. At the end of this first year, candidates who meet the state requirements will be recommended for the Michigan provisional teaching certificate. A benefit to being a Fellow is that you are supported after graduation with mentoring and professional development throughout the first three years of your teaching.
